Love as thou wilt

A quote from Kushiel’s Dart, I just finished it today so I kind of want to book rant. It’s a book somewhere between alternate history and fantasy about a world somewhat similar to Medieval Europe  most of the book is about the complex societies, likable characters, politics and intrigue but there is a lot of sex and bdsm theme seamlessly blended in which made it a particularly fun read.
It’s really neat to see a likable character like Phedre that is not only a lead female protagonist but is also intelligent and strong not in spite of but because of being a masochist and sub and not to mention a consenting and informed one. In the book it’s called being a Anguissette, a person born with a mark to indicate their capacity to feel pleasure from pain (and heal quickly) and they are believed to set balance back into the world.
Also I adore the affably evil Melisande, a magnificent bastard, she’s sexy, powerful, manipulative, and a perfect foe to Phedre.
I enjoyed it and I can’t wait to start Kushiel’s Chosen. *squee*

A fantastic series… It will always be one of my favorites. I constantly will go back and re-read this entire series, from beginning to finish. To be honest, I have yet to read the last of the Naamah’s trilogy because I don’t want it to end.
